Travelers should be aware that Beijing in 2020 passed national security legislation prohibiting speech, assembly, online activities, and other actions that could be deemed a threat to national security. Travelers' actions, comments, and online behavior may face greater scrutiny, and the national security law poses increased risk of detention or arrest. Travelers should avoid any political demonstration or large public gatherings, stay apprised of local developments, abide by guidance from authorities, and remain in close contact with BU hosts.
