There are special considerations that must be followed when taking a Chevron-approved device to China. Please read the guidance below and take any necessary precautions before travelling to China.
Follow these guidelines or contact your IT Service Desk to assist in preparing a "Clean Laptop and Smartphone".
- Move sensitive information from C: drive to One Drive or team SharePoint site
- Avoid confidential and sensitive phone conversations
- While CTN networks offers a higher degree of protection, all communications are vulnerable to interception
- Carefully consider whether the potential damage that could result from an unauthorized disclosure of information
- When working on GIL laptop, use a privacy screen or find a secure location
- Do not work on any public computer
- Do not use the hotel business center for printing or working
- Use great caution when connecting Wi-Fi in airports or hotels
- Connect with a legitimate Wi-Fi with password provided by the hotel, airport, or airline representative
- Don’t fall victim to a "Free Wi-Fi" scam or "Hot-Spot" scam broadcasting from a personal device
- Turn on Chevron VPN connection immediately to fully utilize Chevron security controls for internet access and email
- Limit sharing of travel plans especially on social media
- Keep sensitive electronic information off from the Smartphone
- Consult the below IT support group for the guidance of China Cybersecurity Law if the travelers will need to take or export the China data out of the country.

The overall safety environment remains secure but travelers should be aware that a handful of terrorist incidents have taken place in the past against civilians, security forces, and government targets. Visitors to China should exercise high levels of caution and situational awareness and take the following precautions:
- Travelers in transit in China should avoid lingering in crowded waiting halls or other public areas and move into secure areas (behind security checkpoints) as soon as possible
- When waiting for others, do so after security checks rather than outside train stations, airports, etc.
- Book local train tickets before traveling in order to limit wait times at stations and should board trains as soon as possible
- Remain in close contact with their Business Unit hosts before departure
- Adhere to the travel advice provided before/upon arrival
- Monitor media and local information sources
- Minimize your profile by not displaying Chevron-related logos on your belongings
- Be prepared for additional security measures and potential travel disruptions
- All staff should ensure that their contact details are up to date before travel to China
Employees should be aware that information security risks can be greater during travel, as third parties present in foreign countries may monitor communications and transmissions.
Employees are advised to avoid communications on sensitive matters and to travel with as little sensitive information as possible.
