security risks
The U.S. Department of State recommends increased caution due to crime, terrorism, and kidnapping risks. Regular political rallies and protests have the potential to turn violent, and travelers should avoid large public gatherings. Terrorist activity has generally waned in recent years, but authorities continue to warn about extremist plots and recruitment. Attacks have occurred in areas near Chevron offices and residences and could occur again with little or no warning.
Although not directed at foreigners, violent and petty street crime is also a concern, particularly in Dhaka.
